Manhattan Beach

Such incredible detail of New York City during the War. It was as if Jennnifer Egan was actually there.
The book looked deeply into the lives of each character - it was a big-picture view, meaning each character was complicated, had a story. There are no heroes or villains, each character is a unique individual with an intricate history. Even the minor characters jump off the page.
And - each character has a story arc that leads to a major life change. Ms. Egan captures the MOMENTS of each character's change.
The story is riveting, the foreshadowing is brilliant. I couldn't put it down.
